Method
- Bake the cake according to package directions and let cool completely.
- Crumble the cake into fine crumbs. Mix in frosting until the mixture holds together.
- Roll into balls and place on a lined baking sheet. Chill for 30 to 60 minutes.
- Melt the chocolate until smooth.
- Insert sticks and dip cake balls into chocolate. Decorate with sprinkles.
- Let set upright until firm.
Notes
- Add the frosting gradually and stop once the cake mixture holds together. Too much frosting can make the cake pops soft or heavy.
- Chill the cake balls for at least 30 minutes so they stay firm and are easier to dip.
- Dip the end of each lollipop stick in melted chocolate before inserting it to help keep the cake pops in place.
- Let the coating fully set before storing or serving. Cake pops can be made ahead, stored in an airtight container, or frozen once set.
